Home > Our Villages > The town of Sagelat has something particularly strange because its village, Fongauffier, has a different name and is partly situated on the grounds of the neighbouring village of Monplaisant.
The name of Fongauffier is derived from the fountain that has been running for ages. Near this fountain a benedictine abbey was founded in 1095 that stayed there till the French Revolution. The fresh water from this fountain runs under the cellar of the town-hall, that in earlier days was used as the dining-hall of the abbey.
Where once stood a gallo-roman villa, you will now find the little but very nice church in Sagelat, surrounded by the green fields.
